The owner of a repossessed pickup is accused of breaking into an impound lot, stealing his vehicle and later trying to sell its parts to make some cash, police said.
An impound lot in the 4000 block of Baldwin Boulevard was broken into, and a 2009 Dodge Ram repossessed from Beeville last week was missing, the lot’s owner told police on Thursday.
About 1 p.m. Monday, police were called to a repair shop on Morgan Avenue after the impound lot owner was notified that a vehicle matching the description of the stolen pickup was at the shop, according to a police news release. A man was trying to get the Ram’s parts removed so he could sell them.
The pickup’s former owner, John Costilla, 26, was arrested on suspicion of theft, a state jail felony. He remained in Nueces County Jail early Tuesday morning on $10,000 bail.
The truck was returned to the impound lot.
