Man Takes Unit Off Lot, Takes It To Mexico
A man accused of stealing a vehicle that had been repossessed earlier the same day was arrested after investigators determined the car was driven into Mexico shortly after it was taken from a secured lot in El Paso.
On Friday, July 10, at about 9:32 p.m., deputies responded to a reported vehicle theft at a repossession lot in the 12700 block of Sgt. Figueroa Street.
Deputies determined a black 2021 Dodge Charger, valued at about $24,284, had been lawfully repossessed from its owner earlier that day and was being stored at the secured lot.
Later that evening, deputies said the owner unlawfully entered the property, caused about $1,000 in damage and stole the repossessed vehicle.
During the investigation, deputies learned the stolen Charger crossed into Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, through the Ysleta Port of Entry shortly after the theft.
Working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, investigators identified the suspect as 28-year-old Kevin Alonso Arceo.
Last week, at about 11:40 a.m., deputies located Arceo in the 11700 block of Montana Avenue, where he was taken into custody without incident.
He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of theft of property under $30,000 and criminal trespass. Bond was set at $8,500.
