WARNING – DeFlock’s National Week Of Action
Repossession agency owners and recovery agents should be particularly alert this week as a nationwide campaign against automated license plate reader technology encourages organized action in hundreds of communities across the country.
DeFlock’s National Week of Action runs through August 22, with participants in approximately 460 cities being encouraged to oppose automated license plate readers (ALPRs) and push local governments to end surveillance-camera contracts.
The movement is primarily focused on Flock Safety and similar fixed ALPR networks. However, recent reports of Flock cameras being vandalized, damaged or removed raise another concern for the repossession industry:
Someone looking for an ALPR camera may not necessarily know what they’re looking at.
The campaign comes amid increasing controversy surrounding the use of ALPR networks by law enforcement..
DeFlock’s National Week of Action continues through Saturday, August 22.
Agency owners should make their field personnel aware of the campaign now, particularly agents operating vehicles with externally visible cameras or LPR equipment.
