GA RO Crashes Vehicle In Getaway Try
DECATUR — A husband-and-wife car repossession team were about to repossess a vehicle in Decatur early Tuesday morning when the driver took off, crashing into two other parked vehicles as she fled, police said.
Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland with Decatur police said the driver didn’t get far after speeding away just after midnight from an alley in the 1300 block of West Forest Avenue.
“The repossessors ended up following her wet tire tracks, and they found the vehicle, a 2001 GMC Jimmy, wrecked and abandoned in the 700 block of South McClellan Avenue, about a block away,” Copeland said.
Copeland said the SUV rammed one parked car and sent it crashing into another as the driver fled, and it was this damage that had made the fleeing vehicle ultimately not drivable. Police are seeking the driver on a preliminary charge of reckless driving. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State Attorney’s Office.
