BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police said two Sussex County men were arrested on assault charges after they tried to repossess someone’s car before spraying him with mace.

DSP said troopers went to a home on the 6000 block of Federalsburg Road for a reported assault Tuesday. Once there, a 37-year-old man told police that two men showed up to his home on Saturday with a black truck and told the victim they were there to repossess his car.

According to police, the victim laid on the lift. The men, identified as Michael R. Milligan, 46, of Laurel, and Raymond M. Hitchens, 23, of Georgetown, then started to pull the victim off the lift, sprayed him with mace, and took off with the car, DSP said.

Police also said two young children were present during the incident.

Milligan and Hitchens turned themselves in. They face assault and conspiracy charges, as well as two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Both men were arraigned and released on a $7,000 unsecured bond.
