The Waukegan Police Department responded around 3:10 a.m. on December 28 to the 1100 block of Judge Avenue in Waukegan for a report of shots fired.

A police report said a repossession company was attempting to recover a red 2016 Tesla Model S.

The Tesla was parked at the residence and three Hispanic males exited the residence.

One of them was armed with a handgun and began firing the gun at the employees, the report said.

The repossession employees fled the scene and called 911. No injuries were reported.

The shooting was captured by the repossession vehicle’s cameras, the report said.

Officers spotted a red Tesla traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Sunset Avenue and McAree Road shortly after.

The officers did not pursue the Tesla due to the high speeds. A broadcast was sent out to area police departments and the car was entered into a law enforcement database as wanted.

Gurnee police officers spotted the red Tesla on December 30 and followed it to the American Place Casino in Waukegan, the report said.

The Waukegan Police Department responded and seized the Tesla, which was occupied by a man known to be a Latin King gang member. No charges have been announced yet.
