Repossessor Gets The Unit And An Accidental Child

FLINT, MI – A Flint mother called police Friday to report that her vehicle, with her 2-year-old child inside, has been stolen. But when officials stopped the vehicle, it turned out the vehicle had been taken by a repossession agent and not an opportunist thief.

Flint police said that officers responded Friday afternoon to a call of a reported stolen vehicle and kidnapping. A woman told police that while in the 2100 block of South Dort Highway, she stepped away from her vehicle for a moment before seeing someone drive away in her vehicle. Her 2-year-old child was in the back seat of the vehicle, she told police.

The woman used a friend’s vehicle to chase after her apparently stolen car, updating 911 dispatchers of the location while doing so.
When Flint police officers caught up to the vehicle on I-475, just north of Carpenter Road, the driver stopped for officers, and it was discovered they were a repossession agent who did not know there was a child inside the vehicle.

The child was unharmed and was reunited with the mother, police said.
