Press Release: Clarification Regarding January 28th Incident at Harrisville Walmart

The Harrisville Police Department is aware of a social media post describing a possible attempted carjacking that was reported to have occurred on January 28th in the parking lot of the Harrisville Walmart. We also received a call through Weber Area Dispatch from the complainant involved, and officers immediately began looking into the situation.

We understand why this report caused concern within the community. Situations like this can be alarming, and we appreciate the public’s vigilance in bringing suspicious activity to our attention.

After the investigation, it was determined that the individuals involved worked for a local towing company and were attempting to repossess a vehicle they had followed into the Walmart parking lot. They reported that they lost sight of the vehicle as it entered the lot and located another vehicle matching the description. They made contact with the driver, and after speaking with them, realized their mistake. Within moments of recognizing the error, the individuals located the correct vehicle elsewhere in the parking lot and completed the repossession as intended. After speaking with law enforcement, they expressed clear regret for the confusion and concern their actions caused.

We appreciate the community’s concern and their willingness to look out for one another. Public awareness and prompt reporting are essential parts of keeping Harrisville safe.

The Harrisville Police Department remains committed to transparency, public safety, and strong community partnerships. We thank our residents for their continued vigilance and support.
