7th Continuance As Koistinen Pleads For Release
A federal judge has granted a seventh motion to continue the trial for Jeffrey Allen Koistinen, resetting the trial date to December 9, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. The court also set a new plea deadline for November 21, 2025.
The motion was filed by Koistinen’s attorney, Nicholas Loncar, with the government’s approval. According to the motion, the defense counsel is currently engaged in a separate murder trial in Maricopa County, which is expected to last through mid-September.
Court documents also reveal ongoing litigation concerning a potential conflict of interest, which a recent minute entry shows is related to the cross-examination of a witness, Brandon Koistinen. The court is considering having another attorney conduct the cross-examination. Additionally, the defendant has two pending suppression motions.
In a separate matter, a motion to re-open a detention hearing was taken under advisement by the court. Pretrial Services was ordered to assess the defendant for electronic monitoring.
In its order, the court found that granting the continuance served the “ends of justice” and that failing to do so would likely result in a “miscarriage of justice”. The court’s order states that the extension would provide the defendant with the “reasonable time necessary for effective preparation and consideration”.
He also filed a plea for release from detention. See below.
