Texas Dealer’s Devious Deception Disturbs Debtors
HUNTSVILLE, Tex. (KBTX) — Car owners in the Brazos Valley want answers after they say a Huntsville dealership sold them cars, but won’t give them the titles.
They say they haven’t received registration or proper plates from KamKad Hyundai of Huntsville either, but they’re still paying for the old vehicles.
“I don’t know how deep all this goes, but I do know that it is a big, big scam,” said Melba Baker who bought a car from the dealership in April.
Baker says she’s still on the hook for her old car and says she doesn’t have a title for the new one.
“If I could afford to do this, I’d be driving a Mercedes, or a Lexus or a Cadillac. Not a Hyundai,” Baker said.
Laura Lowrenz filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. She says the dealership refuses to give her her old car back, even though she’s seen it sitting on their lot. The general manager, Dimitrios Platsas told her he’s been driving it around.
“It was my vehicle and it had dealer plates on it and when I asked him ‘Who is driving that car?’ And he said, ‘That’s my demo’,” Lowrenz continued. “I said ‘Do you realize you’re driving a stolen vehicle? That’s my car that I traded in that I’m still making payments on’.”
The Texas DMV says they are investigating 15 complaints against KamKad. Lowrenz says she was told everyone at the dealership has been fired. When KBTX called, we couldn’t get anyone on the phone.
“I’m sick. It just makes me sick to my stomach and I don’t understand how people can be so deceitful and continue to lie and lie,” Lowrenz said.
Lowrenz and Baker are both out thousands of dollars and they say it’s ruining their lives.
“I’m going to have two cars that get repossessed on my credit report that has been spotless my entire life,” Lowrenz said.
“I don’t want anyone else to go through what I’ve had to go through. It’s been very hard,” Baker added.
The women say they are filing lawsuits against the dealership and everyone involved. KBTX left messages with KamKad’s CEO and corporate offices and have not heard back.
