K9 Takes Down Nashville Man After Repo Assault
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man is facing multiple charges after he threatened to kill a tow truck driver who was repossessing his SUV and chased him through Nashville on Thursday.
Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department were called out to an aggravated assault with a motor vehicle situation in the Salemtown area Thursday night. The incident involved a tow truck driver who was called to repossess a BMW X5 but failed to realize the owner, 31-year-old Vincent Johnson, was in the SUV at the time, according to the arrest affidavit.
The officer’s arrest affidavit states that Johnson rammed the tow truck with his SUV, causing damage to his own vehicle, then followed the tow truck as it drove away, stopping beside it several times, and threatened to shoot the driver, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit states that Johnson pursued the tow truck all the way to a lot next to Nissan Stadium, where the driver spotted police vehicles and turned to alert officers of the situation. The tow truck driver then used “repossession GPS” to show the officers where Johnson’s BMW was located, according to the affidavit.
MNPD units attempted a traffic stop at Garfield Street and Nassau Street but Johnson drove away, forcing MNPD to use spike strips to disable his SUV, the affidavit states. Johnson attempted to flee on foot but was brought down by a K-9 and transported to the hospital, according to the affidavit.
Johnson was booked early Friday morning and charged with vehicular aggravated assault, possessing a firearm as a felon, and evading arrest. He faces additional charges of domestic assault, drug possession, and failing to appear.
