Shots Fired Hostage Taken During Chicago Repo
CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — An Orland Park man faces several charges following a shooting and hostage situation at a car repair shop in Chicago Ridge.
Chicago Ridge Police were dispatched at 1:21 a.m. Aug. 20 for a call of shots fired at Signature Line Motorsports, 10005 S. Harlem Ave. An employee of the business had fired several shots at a tow truck there to repossess a vehicle, Chicago Ridge Police said Wednesday.
The tow truck driver, fearing for his life, fled northbound on Harlem Avenue in the southbound lanes.
The suspect, later identified as Mahyoub Dawabsha, 26, of Orland Park, then took another person, who was also at the business with the repossession company, into the business at gunpoint, police said.
Police from Bridgeview and Chicago Ridge officers were able to get inside the business and take Dawabsha into custody. The victim who was being held at gunpoint was unharmed.
Police then searched the business and found the loaded gun.
Dawabsha was charged with felony aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of aggravated assault, police said.
