Colorado LPR Bill Not Moving Forward

Colorado has officially stepped back from one of the more closely watched LPR-related proposals this year. State Senators Judy Amabile and Lynda Zamora Wilson announced that SB26-070 will not move forward in this session. The bill would have placed new guardrails on how government entities access and use historical location data captured through automated license plate readers, including requiring a warrant for access and limiting how that data could be shared. While this takes immediate pressure off the issue in Colorado, it doesn’t signal a change in direction. The concepts behind the bill—warrant requirements, tighter data controls, and restrictions on sharing—are still very much in play across the country, and similar proposals are likely to resurface in future sessions.
