Jury Seated In Murder Trial Over Fatal 2023 Repossession Shooting

A jury has officially been seated in the murder trial of Warren Siao, the man accused of fatally shooting repossession driver Jayson Click during a 2023 recovery attempt.

The trial began Monday morning, moving the case into a phase many in the repossession industry are watching closely given the risks tied to field work. Before proceedings got fully underway, a judge denied a pretrial motion filed by Siao’s defense team, clearing the path for jury selection to proceed.

The morning didn’t come without delays. A courthouse fire drill temporarily disrupted the schedule, slowing what was already expected to be a closely managed start. Even so, both sides pushed forward and completed jury selection later in the day.

By the afternoon, a 14-person jury had been sworn in, made up of 10 men and four women. Two of those jurors will serve as alternates as the trial progresses.

According to investigators, the charges stem from a 2023 repossession attempt that turned deadly when Click was shot and killed while carrying out his work. Cases like this continue to highlight the unpredictable nature of repossession, where routine assignments can quickly escalate into dangerous situations.

With the jury now in place, the trial shifts into opening statements, where both sides will begin laying out their version of events. Testimony and evidence will follow, as the court works toward determining what ultimately happened during the encounter.

The outcome of this case is expected to draw continued attention across the industry, as it touches on ongoing concerns around safety, risk, and the realities.
