“DO NOT DRIVE!” Recall Issued For 2025 Super Duty

Brake failure is a terrifying prospect in any vehicle — but it’s even more terrifying when you’re dealing with a heavy-duty pickup truck that can weigh north of four tons, and tow twice that much to boot. But that’s exactly the circumstances that have led Ford to recall thousands of examples of 2025 model year Super Duty pickup trucks, going so far as to issue a “Do Not Drive” warning for the vehicles, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

The recall — officially submitted to NHTSA on June 13 — covers the oddly satisfying number of 2345 vehicles, spanning the gamut of F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty models, all built between March 19 and May 4 of this year. The issue lies with the brake booster pushrod’s retaining spring — or rather, the lack thereof, as Ford says the affected vehicles were built without the component. As a result, the brake booster pushrod can separate from the brake pedal, leading to an unexpected loss of braking ability; and, as NHTSA’s filing so eloquently puts it, “a sudden loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash.”

NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V401
Components:
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES

Problem Description:
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2025 F-550 SD, F-450 SD, F-350 SD, and F-250 SD
vehicles. The brake booster pushrod retaining spring may not have been installed, which can allow the
pushrod to disconnect from the brake pedal and cause a sudden loss of brake function. As such, these
vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)
numbers 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems” and 105, “Hydraulic and electric brake systems.”
Consequence:
A sudden loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash.
