Ga. Couple Acquitted Of Serious Charges In Repossession Case
(Gainesville Times) A Hall County couple was found not guilty on the most serious charges concerning the two allegedly driving toward two men who were trying to repossess an SUV, according to court documents.
Doyle Timothy Garrison, 57, and Patricia Renee Garrison, 48, were acquitted on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of serious injury by vehicle. They were, however, convicted on a charge of reckless driving, and Patricia Garrison was solely convicted on a count of hit and run.
The case concerned an August 2019 incident on Dana Drive, when the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said two men with a repossession company were trying to repossess an SUV.
The Sheriff’s Office said Patricia Garrison drove toward the men, with one man being taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said Doyle Garrison was a passenger in the SUV.
Both were sentenced to 12 months with the first 30 days to be served in confinement, though both were deemed to have served that time.
Superior Court Judge Bonnie Oliver gave both defendants five months of house arrest.The remainder of the sentence may be served on probation, according to court documents.
Doyle Garrison’s defense attorney, Larry Duttweiler, did not comment on the case when contacted by The Times.
Jason Wilson, Patricia Garrison’s attorney, said he felt the jury had to evaluate the credibility of the repo men.
“I think it just came down to the fact that the jury did not believe what … these repo men were saying,” Wilson said.
