Vigil For Texas Man Killed Repossessing Tires
SAN ANTONIO (NEWS4SA)- A local family is asking for your help after a father of two was gunned down over the weekend.
Family and friends held a vigil on Monday night to celebrate the life of Andrew Gomez, 27, who they say was murdered while trying to repossess some tires.
The shooting took place on June 20 at a home on Corcum Trail near Seguin Road in East Bexar County.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the victim, Andrew Gomez, arrived at the suspect’s home to, according to Gomez’s family, repossess some tires. An argument ensued and the suspect, identified as Richard Alexander Vallejo, 26, shot Gomez several times.
Reports said Vallejo then called 911 and say he shot Gomez because he feared for his life. Deputies arrived on scene and found Gomez with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Sheriff Salazar said that during the investigation, they didn’t find any evidence from witnesses or surveillance video that corroborated Vallejo’s claim of self defense.
Vallejo was arrested and booked for First Degree Felony Murder, with his bond set at $125,000.
The murder investigation is ongoing.
Gomez leaves behind a wife, 7-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.
A drive-thru plate sale fundraiser is being held 12:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday at Somerset Multi-Purpose Center on K Street.
