Security Guard Holds Agent At Gunpoint & Gets Arrested (Video)
A recent social media video captured a dramatic scene at a Kalamazoo church on Sunday. During a vehicle repossession attempt, a security guard allegedly drew a gun on a repo worker.
Jesse Carter, employed by a local repo company, spotted a distinctive burnt orange car parked at the church. He entered the property to verify the vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate, but church security confronted him.
“They basically told me to leave because it’s a church,” Carter explained. “I told them I had a job to do.”
According to church officials, Carter returned shortly after with another truck, apparently intending to tow the vehicle. This is when the situation escalated. The church’s volunteer security team, reportedly well-trained, approached Carter again, and one member allegedly brandished a firearm.
“He threatened to shoot me if I tried to take the car, saying he’d protect the property with his life,” Carter recounted.
Tonya Krause-Phelan, a legal expert from Cooley Law School, weighed in on the incident. She clarified that using deadly force for property protection is illegal. Based on her review, she believes it was a misunderstanding.
“The ‘stand your ground’ law applies only in situations with deadly threats,” Krause-Phelan explained. “There’s no indication the repo worker posed a lethal threat, so drawing a weapon and making threats was unjustified.”
Kalamazoo law enforcement intervened and arrested the 40-year-old security volunteer on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The case is under review by prosecutors, but no charges have been filed yet.
