According to court documents, on Feb. 26 Omar Sueque, 61, filed an appeal his life sentence for attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and burglary of an occupied conveyance with an assault or battery.Sueque, who is represented by attorney Ronald A. Hurst Jr., of Greenacres, filed the appeal on Wednesday to the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals in West Palm Beach.
“Mr. Omar has filed an appeal of his conviction in order to seek review by the appellate court of certain legal rulings and procedures that occurred during the trial,” Hurst Jr. said in a statement to WPBF 25 News on Thursday.
An appeal does not retry the case or question the jury’s effort or dedication. Rather, it asks a higher court to determine whether the law was properly applied and whether any legal errors occurred that may have affected the fairness of the proceedings.
Mr. Omar maintains the utmost respect for the time, service, and decision of the jury. The appeal is not intended to diminish the jury’s role, but instead to ensure that the legal process complied fully with the governing rules and constitutional protections. “A St. Lucie County jury found Sueque guilty of the charges on Dec. 3, 2025.
On Feb. 17, Sueque was sentenced to life in state prison for the attempted first-degree murder charge.
