Texas Man Found Guilty For Repo Assault

A Midland County jury found a 33-year-old Midland man guilty on three felony charges connected with using a gun to threaten two repo men in 2021.

Kirk Savage was found guilty Tuesday of assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearms and carrying a concealed weapon.

Following the verdict, Midland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Beale revoked Savage’s $50,000 personal recognizance bond, and he was lodged in the Midland County Jail pending his sentencing.

Savage is set for sentencing before Beale at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 30.

“Kudos to the Midland Police Department for investigating this, and (to) the jury for their time and diligence,” said Midland County Assistant Prosecutor Joe Amend.

Amend said this was the first time he had dealt with a case involving threats against repossession employees.

Midland Police Department Public Relations Officer Brennon Warren said that on April 27, 2021, officers were sent to the 5200 block of Bay City Road after a 911 call. Two men, ages 45 and 24, were attempting to repossess a vehicle. Savage pulled in while they were doing so and blocked them in with his truck. Warren said the person who owned the vehicle being repossessed was in the passenger seat of Savage’s truck.

The victims said Savage pointed a pistol at them while they were trying to repossess the vehicle. They said Savage then got out of his truck without the pistol.

When police arrived, Savage denied having a pistol or pointing it at the victims. Yet, on a probable cause search, police found a pistol inside the truck with one round in the chamber.

Savage was arrested and later released from jail. Midland police later issued a warrant against him, and Midland County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him on March 21, 2022, after he had been at large for nearly a year.
