Texas Agent Injured After RO Fires Shots

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A Robert Lee man has been arrested after he allegedly opened fire at a tow truck driver repossessing his vehicle on Wednesday night in an incident that left the worker with a “severe laceration.”
The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office inmate roster states that 58-year-old Dennis Seider of Robert Lee was booked into the Tom Green County Jail at 10:04 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief in an amount greater than or equal to $2,500 but less than $30,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Coke County, a Coke County Sheriff’s Office sergeant traveled to a residence in the 100 block of Seashore Lane in Robert Lee at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, after hearing a page from dispatch “in regards to a towing company driver who was repoing a vehicle … and was shot at upon leaving.” Dispatch reported that the driver, a male individual, “was bleeding but unsure if he was hit” and said he would meet law enforcement at the Allsup’s Convenience Store in the town.
The sergeant arrived at the scene and observed a black tow truck with a white pickup attached to its towing machine. The driver of the tow truck exited the vehicle, and the sergeant noted he had “blood on the front of his face and a severe laceration from his left eyebrow.”
The driver stated that he was an employee of West Texas Auto Recovery and was retrieving the pickup from Seider’s residence, as it was “under repossession from the title company.” He said he began checking his surroundings as he pulled away from the property, noticing a man exit the house before reentering.
He said the man left the house once more and “fired shots from his porch towards the truck.” Glass from the windshields would fly around the driver as a result. The driver said he “hit the gas and quickly drove away.”
The sergeant stated in the affidavit that the tow truck “is clearly marked” and that it was obvious the pickup was being towed from the property. An estimated $3,000 to $3,500 in damage was dealt to the tow truck’s windshield during the incident.
On May 28, CCSO personnel traveled to the residence and questioned Seider regarding “the allegations of the previous night’s events.” The affidavit states that Seider denied the allegations, claiming he was at his son’s home until 11 p.m. the night of the incident.
Sheriff’s office members would question the son, finding “conflicting stories” after he said he dropped off Seider at his Seashore Lane residence at 10 p.m., 30 minutes before the incident occurred.
At 1 p.m. that day, the tow truck driver was given a photo array of different individuals at the Coke County Sheriff’s Office. He pointed out and identified Seider with this array.
