In Memory – Todd Showell – Recovery Agent – 2012
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WISTV) —
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says a man working to repossess a car was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon by an 81-year-old man.
The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon in front of a home on Fletcher Drive.
Chief Deputy Hampton Gardner identified the worker shot and killed as 45-year-old Todd Showell of Lee County.
Gardner says Showell and 68-year-old Gerald Lee of Camden arrived at the house shortly before 2 p.m.
Investigators say Showell and Lee were looking for a burgundy GMC pickup, which they did not realize was parked behind the house. But in front they found a similar red truck with a tag number nearly identical to the one on the truck behind the home.
The sheriff’s department says Alton Shelley appeared on or near the front porch with a handgun.
Showell, driving the wrecker, was hit at least once and was dead by the time deputies arrived.
